Curriculum & Courses

The B.A. in Liberal Studies requires 120 total credit hours to graduate, including 9 credit hours of core liberal studies coursework and 79 credit hours of electives. You must transfer in with at least 24 credit hours. Additional transfer credits may significantly reduce the number of credit hours you need to graduate.

LIBS 200 – Introduction to Liberal Studies
This course provides students with broad knowledge and a comprehensive understanding of ethics and civil engagement and exposes the interconnected relationships among the disciplines, society and humanity.

LIBS 300 – Research Methods
The goal of this course is to provide Liberal Studies majors with the skills necessary to conduct independent research.

LIBS 475 – Senior Seminar/Capstone
This course is a seminar for seniors to engage with critical theory and apply it to contemporary issues and problems.

LIBS 202 – Introduction to African American Studies
This course is designed to provide freshmen and sophomores with a critical understanding of the field of African American studies.

LIBS 203 – Introduction to Women’s Studies
This course is designed to provide Women’s Studies concentrators with a critical understanding of the role of women in the U.S. and global economy, society and politics.

LIBS 313 – Human Rights: An Interdisciplinary Approach
This course takes an interdisciplinary and global approach to the study of human rights.

LIBS 316 – Hip Hop Discourse
This course analyzes, critiques and discusses contemporary literature and critical discourse within theoretical, political and social contexts to provide a framework for class discussion and writing assignments.

SPCH 251 – Public Speaking
This course examines methods of developing, organizing and effectively delivering public speeches.

SPCH 314 – Intercultural Communication
This course examines interpersonal and public communication among people from different cultures.
